| HOW YCI USES YOur FUNDRAISING |
 |
| YCI uses your fundraising with care and respect. We are proud of our lean structure and our capacity to do as much as possible with the funding. Your fundraising efforts in communities across Canada mean that YCI can keep a very low administration and fundraising cost structure, freeing up more resources for our work in developing countries. While we are 50% supported by the Canadian International Development Agency, the remaining 50% comes from your fundraising across Canada. |

Here is a breakdown of how the funds from CIDA and from your fundraising are used: |
| |
90% goes towards Program costs including:
 |
|
| |
15% recruitment, selection and placement of Canadian volunteers. We spend a fair amount of time working with volunteers to prepare them for their placements overseas. This represents our marketing and advertising, our website and our staff team dedicated to volunteer marketing recruitment, selection and preparation.
35% volunteer food, travel, accommodation and volunteer management costs. These are the direct costs associated with your experience overseas and are typically what you see the money being spent on. We try and live modestly overseas, so we eat locally grown and farmed food and stay in simple homestays or community halls.
40% development programming and long-term management costs. We run long-term development programming for local youth, some of which you will never see. Our programs are designed to be sustainable and robust without volunteer involvement and much of our costs are devoted to workshops and training for local youth. As well, we support partner organizations and send Canadian program managers for one or two year contracts to implement the programs and we need to cover their salaries and other costs. |

|
10% goes towards Administration costs.

We keep our structure lean by conducting most of our work overseas. But we do need to maintain a head office in Toronto to coordinate and manage our work. These costs include office rent and expenses, all our computers, communications, insurance, accounting and legal costs and administrative salaries to keep the organization professionally managed.
