What YOU Can Do Right Now

PREPARING VOLUNTEERS

Volunteerism is one of the most important facets of non-profit work.  Non-profit organizations cannot fulfill their goals and objectives without volunteers and the spirit of volunteerism.  As you prepare for your overseas placement, we encourage you to volunteer with a local organization.  This will help you to develop relevant skills that will contribute to your effectiveness abroad.  With your return to Canada, you will be equipped with new skills and diverse experiences gained from your overseas placement to contribute to your community.

Consider both your personal goals and community needs when seeking out a Canadian volunteer placement.  Ask yourself:
  • What skills do I want to develop? What skills are needed to better my community?
  • What issues do I feel strongly about?  What issues are affecting my community?
  • What activities will complement or work towards my education and career?
