Peer Methodologies: Youth Working with Youth
The major goal of all YCI projects is to foster youth development, to involve youth in solutions to the problems that they face and to create an opportunity for youth to be involved in international development.
YCI believes in achieving results through a participatory approach to development. By involving local youth directly in programs, YCI is able to effectively create awareness around issues such as HIV/AIDS, gender equality, youth employability and life skills and environmental protection. All programs in different locations utilize methodologies that are culturally appropriate and are meaningful to the local youth such as music, drama, arts and sport.
By directly involving local youth, YCI ensures the sustainability of youth development programs in each region where we work. Local youth are encouraged to further their efforts on the issues they have been working on and to practice the skills they have acquired through YCI educational workshops. Local youth are empowered to realize that they are responsible for their development and the betterment of their communities. While engaging in YCI programs, events and workshops, youth are given an environment that encourages them to identify their strengths, test their ideas and grow both individually and as a community. |
